Workers compensation

In NSW, if you are injured or develop an illness through the course of your employment and work is determined to be a substantial contributing factor to your injury or illness, you may be eligible to receive workers compensation benefits in relation to the injury or illness, under the:

Workers compensation at UTS

Insurance policy

Under NSW law all employers must have a workers compensation insurance policy to cover their staff.

A certificate of currency for the UTS workers compensation insurance policy is issued annually and is available to all employees of UTS.

Benefits

Workers compensation provides a system of compensation for workplace injuries, and assists injured workers to return to work.

Who can claim

All employees of UTS including casual staff, can claim compensation for wages and medical costs through UTS' workers compensation insurance, if they suffer an injury or illness arising out of or in the course of their employment.

Psychological injury

Section 11A of the NSW Workers Compensation Act 1987 (opens an external page) contains a specific "psychological injury" clause stating that:

No compensation is payable under this Act in respect of an injury that is a psychological injury if the injury was wholly or predominantly caused by reasonable action taken or proposed to be taken by or on behalf of the employer with respect to transfer, demotion, promotion, performance appraisal, discipline, retrenchment or dismissal of workers or provision of employment benefits to workers.
