Academics health and safety responsibilities

In addition to the health and safety responsibilities that everyone at UTS have,
academics must:

  • provide relevant and practical health and safety information to students (through inclusion in curriculum and course notes),

  • take steps to ensure students adopt safe work practices,

  • conduct and document risk assessments on research and consulting programs/projects, and ensuring that risks are eliminated or controlled, and

  • consult with staff who may be affected by health and safety risks during risk assessments, when decisions are made about the measures to be taken to eliminate or control these risks,and when these risk assessments are reviewed.

There are additional health and safety responsibilities for Deans.

Session content

This session is for academic staff as they have supervisory responsibilities. The session will give you the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and practical application of the health and safety system at UTS and the tools and resources available to help you fulfill your health and safety responsibilities. Areas covered include:

  • Legislation
  • Responsibilities of academic supervisors
  • The health and safety risk management approach at UTS
  • Health and safety planning process

Re-training frequency

Academic staff are required to undertake refresher training every four years.
