Operational health and safety audits
The Safety & Wellbeing branch conducts audits of facilities to assess compliance against the corresponding faculty and unit operational environment, health and safety (EHS) plan.
The facilities chosen to be audited by the Safety & Wellbeing branch are selected based on a range of criteria including:
- level of risk - with a focus on facilities such as laboratories and workshops where higher-risk activities (when compared with the office environment, for example) occur,
- performance in previous audits, all facility audit results are stored in the online management system, and
- history of accidents or incidents occurring within the facility.
The Safety & Wellbeing branch also conducts audits at the request of facility managers, faculty technical managers, Deans etc.
Whilst the focus of the auditing approach is upon high-risk activities, audits can be performed on any facility or work activity in a faculty or unit. In low-risk areas such as offices, the Safety & Wellbeing branch also assists by conducting workplace inspections using the office and general work area safety hazard inspection checklist.
