Information for first aid officers

UTS has a network of first aid officers to minimise the impact of any injuries or illnesses should an accident occur.

Being a first aid officer at UTS

As a UTS first aid officer you should know:

In an emergency

Dial

  • 6 from any internal phone, or
  • 1800 249 559 from mobile phones (everyone who has a mobile phone on campus should add this number to their contacts).

You should be familiar with the UTS evacuation procedures. UTS: Facilities management provide details of the evacuation procedures, and the Escape from UTS video which shows how to evacuate UTS.

If you see a hazard or incident

Report all hazards and incidents to your supervisor using the Hazard and Incident Reporting Online (HIRO) system.

You can make maintenance requests and cleaning requests online.

Apply First Aid

Target audience

Approved UTS first aid officers.

Major learning outcomes

In the Apply First Aid training course, participants learn the skills to provide first aid treatment for staff or students who are injured or become ill at UTS, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Certificates are valid for three years.

Course duration

2 days

Booking

Participants are trained by St John Ambulance trainers at a local venue of their choice. For details of course availability refer to their website (opens an external site)

Once a nomination for first aid training form has been completed Safety & Wellbeing will:

  • book the training, and
  • meet the course costs.

Apply First Aid Re-certification

Target audience

Approved UTS first aid officers.

Retraining should be done within one month of the certificate expiry date.

Major learning outcomes

The Apply First Aid Re-certification course provides a refresher on basic first aid skills.
