Overseas travel
Groups and individual UTS staff members undertake overseas travel on official business as a regular part of UTS operations. Risks to staff wellbeing, personal safety and security whilst travelling overseas (e.g. due to civil unrest, natural disaster, infectious disease etc.) must be effectively and systematically managed.
UTS has integrated health and safety risk management into the travel approval process, to fulfil its duty of care towards staff travelling overseas.
UTS: Financial Services Unit provide full details of the UTS risk management and overseas travel guidelines.
DFAT travel advisory risk levels
Based on the assessment of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), UTS staff are not permitted to travel to countries which DFAT advise:
-
'Not to travel' - DFAT travel advisory is risk level 5 (opens an external site).
-
'Reconsider your need to travel' - DFAT travel advisory is risk level 4 (opens an external site) unless an exemption is granted by the staff member's Dean or Director.
In considering the possibility of granting an exemption the staff member's Dean or Director need to undertake a formal written assessment of the risk of travel. UTS: Financial Services Unit provides details of what is required in the assessment of the risk of travel in the UTS risk management and overseas travel guidelines.
Travel approval form
Prior to travelling overseas on planned UTS business, UTS staff are required to complete the UTS travel approval form.
